All Together Now is very pleased that the government has reversed its decision to water down the Racial Discrimination Act (RDA). This is a huge win for racial justice in Australia.
Thousands of organisations and individuals wrote submissions in favour of keeping the RDA in its current form, including All Together Now. We are very pleased that the government listened to community concerns.
Again, it is important to recall Australia’s international obligations, and the commitment we have made to the International Covenant on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD). Australia is first and foremost a multicultural society, and hence protections against racial discrimination should be at the forefront of our legal and policy initiatives, as mandated by our international obligations.
