New Unplug the Hate Resources Help Young People Navigate the Manosphere

All Together Now has launched a new suite of free educational resources as part of the Design Against Hate program, helping young people and communities better understand the manosphere and the harmful online narratives that can emerge within these spaces.

Developed through a youth-led co-design process, the Unplug the Hate resources unpack how online misogyny and extremist narratives spread, why these spaces can appeal to young people, and how supportive conversations and critical thinking can help build resilience.

The resources explore:

  • What the manosphere is and how these online communities operate
  • How self-improvement content can sometimes act as a gateaway or shift into harmful messaging
  • Why boys and young men may be drawn into these spaces
  • What happens in the manosphere, unpack some of the key messaging and the tactics used to keep young people engaged
  • Practical tips to support someone stepping away from the manosphere

The resources focus on understanding the social, emotional and digital factors that can make young people vulnerable to these narratives, while promoting empathy, inclusion and safer online communities.

The project comes at a time of growing concern around the rise of online misogyny, anti-LGBTQIA+ hate and extremist content targeting young people. Research and community organisations have increasingly highlighted the overlap between some manosphere spaces and broader harmful ideologies, with extremist groups actively exploiting these online communities to recruit and radicalise young men through narratives centred on masculinity, grievance and belonging.

About the Project

Unplug the Hate is part of the youth-led Design Against Hate program, developed by All Together Now in partnership with headspace and supported by Multicultural NSW. The resources aim to empower communities to have informed, constructive conversations about online influence, belonging and identity.
