Update 24 April:
The Advisory Panels for Muslim women and Aboriginal men are nearly full. However we are still seeking applications from people who are currently tertiary students, or have studied at a tertiary institution in the past 5 years, and are of Indian descent. Ideally you will be aged 18-35. Please apply as below.
Original post:
Together with three Australian universities, we are creating a story-based project due to be launched in October. We are looking for volunteers to join the project Advisory Panel. The purpose of the Advisory Panel is to ensure that the stories and dialogue are true to life.
Selection criteria
Applicants will identify with one of our three characters:
-
a Muslim woman who wears a Hijab
-
an Aboriginal man
-
an international student of Indian heritage (male or female)
Members of this Panel will be:
-
aged 18-34 years old
-
live/work/study in an urban area in Australia
-
be willing to provide their opinion about our stories based on their real-life experiences, rather than their academic or theoretical understanding of racism
-
can easily access a computer or tablet/iPad with internet and email access
-
be willing to sign and abide by a confidentiality agreement
-
commit to being involved with this project throughout the duration (early May to end November 2013)
Expectations of Panel members
Successful applicants who are selected for the Advisory Panel will be required to read the stories (which are based on real-life interviews) and provide feedback on whether the behaviours and language used are true to their own experiences. At the conclusion of the project they will be asked their overall opinion of the project so it can be evaluated.
Selected members may be asked to speak to the media upon the launch of the project in October.
We expect involvement for the Advisory Panel members will require around 2 hours per month.
How to apply
To apply, please email us outlining how you fit the selection criteria above.
Successful applicants will be chosen based on a competitive selection process. Applicants will be notified of their involvement during the following week.
Further information
This project is confidential until the launch date and we will require all participants to sign a confidentiality agreement before we provide them with any information. However if you have any general questions about the Advisory Panel’s involvement or the project prior to applying, please email us.
