The state of racism in Australia

At All Together Now, we are still struck by the number of people who deny that racism exists in Australia or who tell us that it isn’t really a problem anymore.

Yet 1 in 5 people surveyed in the annual Mapping Social Cohesion Report released late 2013 said they had experienced racial discrimination in the past year. This is a huge jump from the previous year when one in eight said they had experienced racism. This increase may mean that racism is increasing, or that more people are becoming aware of racism and are learning how to tell if something is racist.

Either way, this infographic provides an overview of the state of racism in Australia at the moment. If your friends try to tell you that racism doesn’t exist, send this to them as a conversation starter!
